The difference in the usage behavior of streaming services and linear television is clearly evident in the different age groups. ARD and ZDF present their study results.

According to a study, almost every fourth person aged 14 and over uses streaming services every day. This emerges from the published survey “ARD/ZDF mass communication trends 2022”. According to this, 24 percent watch videos or live streams on streaming services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video or DAZN every day.

If you look more closely at certain age groups in the study, it becomes clear that especially young people stream. More than half of 14 to 29 year olds (53 percent) use streaming services on a daily basis. In contrast to this: for the over 70-year-olds, the value is only 2 percent.

If you look at the current TV program, a completely different picture emerges. 82 percent of those over 70 watch linear TV every day, compared to 36 percent of those aged 14 to 29.

The study is representative of the German-speaking resident population aged 14 and over. Between January and April, 2006 people were interviewed by the Institut Gesellschaft für Innovative Marktforschung mbH on behalf of ARD and ZDF. The study has been conducted annually since 2017.
