A tyrant from Wallachia is probably the model for the world-famous figure of the bloodsucker. As early as the 15th century, descriptions of his cruelty can be found in Bavarian monastery records. Nuremberg book printers were doing good business even then by distributing the horror stories.
In the quaint 70s and 80s, many adolescents had hickeys on their necks. Some will still remember how the marked people then tried to hide those zuzel spots from the smirking audience with the help of scarves. And it was sneered at: “Maybe the Drakulla bit you?” The name of the famous bloodsucker Dracula was often corrupted according to the custom of the time, especially since Polanski’s film parody “Dance of the Vampires”. A hickey – from the mockers’ point of view, that could only be the work of a Drakulla.
