A day after the verdict against Oath Keepers founder Rhodes, another member of the right-wing extremist group has been sentenced to prison. The woman was involved in the storming of the US Parliament in 2021.
Another member of the far-right group Oath Keepers has been sentenced to a long prison term for the 2021 storming of the US Capitol. The US Army veteran has been sentenced to eight and a half years in prison.
Unlike Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes, she was acquitted of charges of seditious conspiracy. The jury found her guilty of obstructing and conspiring to prevent the US Congress from winning Joe Biden’s election.
US District Judge Amit Mehta said the defendant was more than “just a foot soldier”. At least three other defendants would not have taken part in the storming of the Capitol if she had not enlisted them. She played an aggressive and purposeful role.
“Just another idiot”
The defendant apologized for her actions before the verdict. She was “just another idiot” who was “running around the Capitol” at the time. Oath Keepers founder Rhodes was sentenced to 18 years in prison on Thursday, and a third member of the Oath Keepers to 12 years.
A crowd whipped up by then US President Donald Trump stormed the seat of the US Congress on January 6, 2021, when the election victory of his successor Biden was to be formally confirmed. Trump had incited his supporters in a speech.
Five people died at the time. In total, more than 500 defendants have been sentenced so far, more than half of whom have received prison sentences.
