Flying roof parts, canceled flights, extremely high wind speeds: a storm is sweeping across the north of Norway.

Residents in the northern Norwegian province of Nordland have been asked not to leave their homes due to a violent storm. Objects flew through the air in many places on Monday, including parts of house roofs, as the police warned on Platform X. According to the NTB agency, several schools in the region remained closed on Monday. Numerous flights to and from Northern Norway have also been canceled, NTB reported.

According to the meteorological institute, there was a high risk of avalanches in large parts of the region. The highest wind speeds were therefore expected for Monday afternoon. Hurricane-force winds could occur along the coast, meteorologist Jon Austerheim told NTB. In the province of Troms the Police say they receive support from the military in order to be able to reach remote areas in an emergency.
