Storm: No train traffic between Mittenwald and Innsbruck – Bavaria

Due to storm damage in Austria, train services between Mittenwald in Upper Bavaria and Innsbruck main station were suspended on Tuesday evening. The ÖBB (Austrian Federal Railways) has ordered a replacement service for the route, Deutsche Bahn announced.

As an alternative towards Innsbruck, the trains from Munich main station via Kufstein could be used. The storm caused damage between the Austrian towns of Scharnitz and Hochzirl.

There was further damage in Austria. A regional train was hit by a mudslide in Tyrol, Austria, after heavy rain. The mudflow – a stream of mud, rock and debris sliding down the mountain – trapped the train on Tuesday evening, the police reported.

Four passengers and the train driver had to be freed by the fire department. But they were not injured. The incident happened in the Seefeld area in the Innsbruck-Land district. A road that was also affected was closed.

Further north, in Lower Franconia, heavy rains also caused fire brigade operations. During a storm in the Schweinfurt area, the fire department had to deal with flooded cellars, fallen trees and two fires. A lightning strike in Poppenhausen caused “heavy smoke” on Wednesday night, the Integrated Control Center (ILS) Schweinfurt announced in the morning.

Near Stadtlauringen, also in Lower Franconia, several fire departments had to extinguish a straw bale warehouse. Here too, a lightning strike cannot be ruled out as the cause of the fire, it was said. There were 24 storm operations in the entire ILS Schweinfurt area. One person had to go to the hospital.
