High wind speeds, massive rainfall and waves up to nine meters high: the warnings about “Lidia” were drastic. The hurricane has now reached Mexico. A person dies.

After Hurricane Lidia made landfall on Mexico’s Pacific coast and one person died. In Punta de Mita in the state of Nayarit in the southwest of the country, a falling tree killed a man in his car on Tuesday (local time), the newspaper “El Occidental” reported, citing the civil protection authority. According to the US Hurricane Center, the tropical storm dissipated during the night on Wednesday. However, heavy rain and flooding are still expected.

Previously, “Lidia”, with a strength of four out of five on the hurricane scale, had reached the mainland near the town of Las Peñitas, 55 kilometers southwest of the holiday resort of Puerto Vallarta (state of Jalisco).

In Nayarit, numerous trees fell and streets were flooded. According to a report in the newspaper “Milenio”, the authorities set up 500 emergency shelters. Around 1,500 soldiers and police officers were also deployed.
