Ferry cancellations to North Sea islands due to low water

Islanders and autumn vacationers on the North Sea will have to prepare for postponements and cancellations of ferries to and from the East Frisian Islands in the coming days. Significantly lower water levels are expected there in the next three days due to the easterly wind. On the Lower Saxony coast, flood levels are up to 125 centimeters lower than the usual average tidal flood. That’s why some of the ferries can no longer run. According to the Norden-Frisia shipping company, traffic to Juist will be completely stopped on Friday. The island can then only be reached by island plane. Deutsche Bahn announced on Wednesday that it would completely stop ferry traffic to and from Wangerooge on Friday and Saturday. The company said further restrictions are also expected on Sunday due to the strong easterly wind. In addition, ferry companies also announced timetable changes for connections to and from Langeoog and Spiekeroog from Thursday to the weekend.

The water levels on the Schleswig-Holstein North Sea coast are also expected to be well below normal values by Saturday. The shipping companies have therefore announced cancellations and postponements for connections to islands and Halligen.
