Massive rainfall within a few hours has claimed at least ten lives in the Italian region of Marche and caused extensive damage.

At least ten people have died in the devastating rains and floods in the Italian region of Marche on the Adriatic coast. This was announced by the prefecture in the city of Ancona on Friday morning, after eight deaths had previously been mentioned. Four people were still missing, according to the Ansa and Adnkronos news agencies.

Among them are a woman and her 17-year-old daughter and an eight-year-old boy in the village of Barbara, said Mayor Riccardo Pasqualini, according to Ansa. There had been a heavy downpour in the area on Thursday afternoon. Experts said that within a few hours, as much rain fell as usual in half a year.
