Storm depression “Roxana” over Bavaria: fallen trees, objects flying around – Bavaria

During the night, storm depression “Roxana” moved over Bavaria with rain or sleet and sometimes hurricane-force gusts. The fire brigade was on duty in several places – mainly because of fallen trees, falling branches or fallen construction fences and the resulting traffic obstructions. Apparently no one was hurt.

The Munich fire brigade already reported on Twitter in the evening of increased operations. Trees kept falling, branches fell, site fences lay on the street, parts of roofs and other objects became independent. According to their own statements, the fire brigade had already completed almost 60 operations by 10 p.m. The Munich S-Bahn experienced delays on several routes due to objects on the tracks.

On the Munich-East ring road, the driver of a truck lost control of his 40-ton truck at around 2:50 a.m. because of excessive speed on a snow-covered road. This then crossed on the A 99 in the direction of Nuremberg just before the Hohenbrunn junction. Nobody got hurt. The salvage of the articulated lorry turned out to be so difficult that two out of three lanes remained blocked by the motorway maintenance department until late in the morning.

According to the police, 30 weather-related emergency calls were received in Lower Bavarian districts by early Monday morning. A chimney fire broke out in the Dingolfing-Landau district. According to police, it is believed the storm created suction and pulled the burning fire up the chimney. However, there was no damage and the residents escaped with a fright.

In addition, there were traffic hazards and obstructions due to fallen trees and fallen branches. This also resulted in four minor traffic accidents because the car drivers were no longer able to stop in time. In the district of Deggendorf, the trailer of a car was hit by the stormy side wind and, after the resulting detachment, was catapulted into the ditch. Overall, the total damage caused by the traffic accidents was low. No one was injured, a police spokesman said early Monday morning. The property damage was therefore low – in the lower four-digit range.

The storm damage was also limited in Upper Bavaria, as reported. In addition to the Munich S-Bahn routes, there were also some regional train routes outages. In the mountains, some lifts and cable cars stood still on Sunday, as BR24 reports, whether they can reopen today is uncertain. In the Upper Palatinate, too, the storm night was apparently mild – according to BR24, there were two accidents in which nobody was injured. On the A93 between Schwarzenfeld and Naaburg, a driver lost control of his car and crashed into a guardrail. A tree fell on the B85 near Königstein in the Amberg-Sulzbach district. A driver was unable to brake in time and crashed into the tree.

The German weather service has now lifted the red alert, but according to the DWD there can still be gusts of wind throughout Bavaria, which can also be severe at higher altitudes. In addition, the weather service warns of ice due to freezing wet.
