At least 12 people have died in northern India in heavy monsoon rains. The Indian weather service predicts continued heavy rain for the coming days.

Associated with heavy monsoon rains are in the north India’s at least twelve people have died. Heavy rain caused houses to collapse and other victims were swept away by the floods, the Indian television station NDTV reported on Sunday. In the capital New Delhi, more rain fell than ever on a single day in the past 40 years. There were power outages and roads were flooded. The Indian weather service predicted continued heavy rain for the coming days.

Heavy rains, causing violent flooding and landslides, are normal in the current monsoon season in South Asia. The monsoon usually lasts from June to September. The damage is often great – houses are washed away, there are always fatalities. At the same time, the rain is vital for agriculture, on which a large part of the population lives.
