Happy ending for Ruma: For days, the fate of the stolen bearded monkey from Leipzig Zoo was unclear. Now the animal has been found again.

Ruma is back home at Leipzig Zoo. The bearded monkey lady was discovered on Thursday morning in the Leipzig district of Reudnitz and appeared to be unharmed, the zoo said. A team of zookeepers brought back the 15-year-old female. Ruma was reported stolen on Easter Sunday after his enclosure was broken into (the star reported).

According to the zoo, the police received a tip on Thursday morning that a monkey had been spotted in a tree in the Reudnitz district of Leipzig. The zoo team moved out immediately. In the meantime, the animal ran into a nearby apartment building and was caught there.

Bearded monkey thieves still at large

“We are relieved that our female bearded monkey is doing well after an initial examination. There are no external injuries to be seen, but she appears weakened,” explained zoo director Junhold. He thanked the whistleblower who discovered the monkey in the tree.

The animal’s absence was discovered on the morning of Easter Sunday. According to the zoo, there were clear signs of break-in at the enclosure. The stolen monkey’s companion, the 12-year-old male Yemur, remained unharmed in the enclosure.

The police suspect that the monkey was released after the theft because of public reporting. She announced that investigations were continuing into particularly serious theft.
