Such a cleansing storm, which could quickly cost the index 300, 400 or more points in a row, would not be unusual, warns Jochen Stanzl from CMC Markets. “Often there is no need for a reason for the prices to fall. It simply happens because they have previously risen too much and no one expects them anymore.”
The DAX has been unstoppable for weeks. The prospect of long-term falling interest rates in the USA and the Eurozone has driven the German leading index from one record high to the next. The record value is now 18,513.80 points. The DAX ended the last shortened trading week at 18,492 points, just below the 18,500 mark. The annual increase is already around ten percent.
The new trading week starts today with the German ones consumer prices for March. Experts expect inflation to continue to decline. Consumer prices are therefore only expected to rise by 2.3 percent, after 2.5 percent in February and 2.9 percent in January. If the trend towards declining inflation continues, this should pave the way for a downward interest rate turnaround for the European Central Bank in the middle of the year if a similar development occurs in the euro area.
On the corporate side, investors are looking up Tesla. The reason: Against the background of weak e-car markets and the production standstill at its factory in Grünheide, the US car manufacturer is presenting figures for its deliveries in the first quarter of 2024. Analysts expect 458,500 Teslas to have been delivered to customers from January to March. Although this is more than the 422,875 vehicles delivered in the same period last year, it is a decrease of five percent compared to the previous quarter. At the beginning of March, production in Grünheide was down for more than a week due to an arson attack. During this time, Tesla claims to have produced around 1,000 vehicles a day.
