Stewards and a police officer injured while avoiding clashes between supporters

The match between Stade Rennais and FC Nantes had already started in a beautiful atmosphere when the police were called to intervene at the bottom of the stands of Roazhon Park on Sunday. The reason ? The presence of a hundred ultra members of the Loire Brigade on the other side of the Vilaine. Nantes supporters who could not attend the match but made the trip to insult their Rennes counterparts.

The answer was not long in coming. Present in the Mordelles stand, around thirty members of Roazhon Celtic Kop came down and forced the gates closing access to the stadium in order to fight with the Loire Brigade. The intervention of the stewards then of the police and gendarmerie forces made it possible to avoid a confrontation.

“They tried to get out, banging the gates. We pushed them back into the stadium to prevent them from coming out. Some stewards were mistreated, ”said a member of the security forces present on the spot. According to our information, two stewards and a police officer were slightly injured during this brief clash.

Some tensions also erupted after the Rennes victory when the police tried to control certain individuals suspected of being at the origin of the damage. No arrests were made. As for the members of the Loire Brigade, they were repulsed by the mobile gendarmes without incident.

Supporters banned outside the stadium

If we were far from the situation experienced in Nice during the derby against Olympique de Marseille, this new episode of clashes between supporters will clearly not encourage the prefects to facilitate the movement of visitors.

This Sunday, the prefecture of Ille-et-Vilaine banned the presence of Nantes supporters outside the stadium. Only the 500 people supervised in an official trip were able to take place in the visitors’ stand. A small step forward after years of systematic bans and an 18-month closed session imposed by the Covid-19. The incidents in Nice, or earlier in Montpellier, could cost supporters dearly.
