Steve Bannon has a date in prison

Former adviser to Donald Trump at the White House, Steve Bannon will have to serve a four-month prison sentence no later than July 1. This decision was ordered by federal judge Carl Nichols on Thursday.

In October 2022, Steve Bannon was found guilty of obstructing the investigative powers of Congress due to his refusal to cooperate with the parliamentary investigation into the assault on the Capitol on January 6, 2021. The four-month prison sentence was confirmed on appeal on May 10, 2024. During his trial, it was notably proven that Steve Bannon had spoken on the phone with Donald Trump on the day of the invasion of the Capitol.

Suspensive appeal by the defense

The application of the sentence had been suspended due to an appeal by the defense, but Judge Carl Nichols lifted this suspension at the request of the prosecution and ordered that the defendant, aged 70, therefore appear in court. prison on July 1 at the latest.

Steve Bannon is not alone in this situation. Peter Navarro, another former adviser to Donald Trump at the White House, was also sentenced to four months in prison for the same facts. He has already started serving his sentence in March 2024 and is expected to be released next July.
