Steve Bannon convicted of contempt of US Congress – Politics

Former US President Donald Trump’s chief strategist Steve Bannon has been convicted of contempt of Congress in a federal court in Washington. The US media reported this on Friday. The transmitter CNN reported the jury unanimously found the 68-year-old guilty. A sentence will be announced at a later date.

Bannon was charged in November for ignoring a subpoena from the investigative committee into the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the US Capitol. He was also accused of failing to provide requested documents. the Washington Post reported that Bannon faced between 30 days and a year in prison on both counts. However, no one has been imprisoned for contempt of Congress since the Cold War. CNN called the conviction a “victory” for the investigative committee, which continues to seek the cooperation of unwilling witnesses in its investigation. According to the broadcaster NPR, the sentence against Bannon is to be announced on October 21.
