One day after a man drove his car into a group of people in Stettin, the media reported: It was not a traffic accident.

The car driver on Friday in the Polish city Stettin, who injured several people, is said to have deliberately driven into the group of people. The TV news channel TVN24 and the PAP news agency reported this on Saturday, citing the public prosecutor’s office. They have initiated criminal proceedings against the 33-year-old Polish citizen for attempting to kill a large number of people and for intentionally causing a catastrophe.

Number of injured increases

The authorities have now corrected the number of injured people from 19 to 20. One person only went to a hospital a little later, it was said.

The perpetrator initially drove into a group of people at a tram stop on Rodlo Square in the port city of Stettin. He then fled the scene of the accident and shortly afterwards rammed three other vehicles with his car, injuring more people.

20 injured in Szczecin

According to authorities, the 20 injured are between five and 62 years old. Six of the injured were in “critical” or “serious” condition, hospital spokesmen told the media.

The police had already announced on Friday evening that the man from Stettin had been receiving psychiatric treatment for four years.
