It is a narrow statement that triggers a huge tremor in the CSU on Tuesday evening. Secretary General Stephan Mayer explains his resignation in six sentences, “for health reasons,” as he writes. But that is, if at all, only half the truth. Because there was this report last week in the magazine Colorful. It spoke of a son of Mayer, whom the new CSU general denied. In Mayer’s declaration of resignation, this report is discussed (“illegal reporting”) – and a conversation he had in this connection with a Colorful-Editor led. He “possibly used a choice of words that I would not consider appropriate in retrospect. I very much regret that,” writes Mayer.
