On average 30 euros more Bafög than in the previous year – this is the balance sheet for the past year. Total expenditure was three billion euros.

The funding amounts under the Federal Training Assistance Act – Bafög for short – have increased slightly on average over the past year. In 2022, 630,000 people were supported in this way – 7,000 or one percent more than in the previous year.

According to the Federal Statistical Office, they received an average of 592 euros per month. “The average funding amount was 30 euros or 5.1 percent higher than in the previous year,” the office said Wiesbaden with. Expenditure on Bafög benefits totaled three billion euros.

78 percent of those receiving funding were students, the rest were schoolchildren. Compared to the previous year, the number of sponsored students rose by almost five percent, while that of schoolchildren fell by around nine percent.

On average, students received 611 euros per month and schoolchildren 517 euros. The amount of the individual subsidy depends, among other things, on the type of training center and whether you live with your parents or abroad.

A good half of the Bafög recipients received the maximum amount of funding, 13 percent more than in the previous year. The rest received only partial funding. Only partial funding is granted if the income of the recipient or the parents exceeds certain limits.
