State of Play: Gameplay Scenes from Hogwarts Legacy

In yesterday’s State of Play, Avalanche Software detailed the latest game from the Harry Potter universe. A new video, around 20 minutes long, shows gameplay, in the official PlayStation Blog you’ll also find a lengthy text from Avalanche’s Community Manager, Chandler Wood, on various aspects of the title. The Single player action RPG with no microtransactions is due out at the end of the current year and invites you to spend a few semesters at Hogwarts.

You don’t play as a ready-made student, you can create your own female or male character and then live in one of the four Hogwarts houses. Wood writes, “Depending on which Hogwarts house you belong to, you’ll see the unique architecture, decor, and entrances of each common room. My fellow Slytherins will be particularly pleased with how our common room entrance is behind the The writhing body of a giant stone snake disappears. We’re also excited to show you our versions of the rarely seen Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff common rooms, with the Ravenclaws perched high in a tower while the Hufflepuffs reside in a cozy basement.”

Hogwarts Legacy takes place towards the end of the 19th century, long before the events of the books and films. “At the heart of it all is a fully explorable Hogwarts filled with mysteries to be discovered and mysteries to be unraveled.” Regardless, “your legacy in the late 19th-century wizarding world will remind you of everything you loved about Harry Potter — discovering magic, making new friends, and being a hero.”

Describing the combat system, Wood says, “Various spells allow for different approaches to combat. Do you want to charge into battle wand-waving, accioing the opponent before you incendio finish them off? Or do you cast the Disillusionment Spell to reverse Going stealthily and taking out the opponents with a silent Petrificus Totalus? Different techniques will be required to react to the opponent’s strengths and weaknesses, which should make every fight feel gripping.”
