State exit – Lufthansa is private again – economy

The state has sold its last shares in the Lufthansa Group at a large profit. With the exit, Lufthansa is again a completely private company and freed from all government regulations. The Klaus-Michael Kühne company increased its stake to 17.5 percent and is now by far the largest shareholder in the group. The State Economic Stabilization Fund (WSF) bought 20 percent of the airline for 306 million euros in 2020 and gradually sold this stake again. Most recently, the WSF held 6.2 percent. Overall, the entry brought a profit of 760 million euros due to the increased share price. In June 2020, Lufthansa was on the verge of bankruptcy due to the corona pandemic, in which air traffic had almost come to a complete standstill. During the WSF participation, Lufthansa was forbidden, among other things, to sell participations in foreign companies. The members of the Management Board only received their basic salaries, but no variable remuneration.
