State election in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania 2021: Current forecast – Politics

In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the SPD is by far the strongest force. According to a forecast by the Wahlen research group, Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig’s Social Democrats will win significantly and get 39 percent of the vote. The second strongest force in Schwerin is again the AfD, but it loses and comes to 17 percent. Leading candidate Michael Sack’s CDU loses significantly and ends up with only 14 percent. With only 10 percent, the Left Party is likely to have its worst election result to date. The Greens are 6.5 percent, the FDP 6 percent. Both parties were recently not represented in the state parliament.

The SPD was able to assert itself as the strongest force in the last state elections in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in 2016. Schwesig took over government affairs in 2017 from her predecessor Erwin Sellering and leads a coalition with the CDU.

With whom the SPD wants to govern after the election, Schwesig had recently left open. She is striving for a coalition with which she can work stably and reliably. As a conceivable alternative to the new edition of red-black, red-red could come into question. A very narrow majority of the SPD and the Greens is still conceivable, but at the moment it is barely enough.
