At the start of the Easter holidays, there were increasing disruptions on Bavaria’s highways on Saturday. “There are really a lot of people heading south,” said a traffic expert from the ADAC in Munich. “As expected, it started in the morning and tapered off a bit in the afternoon.”
Numerous traffic jams and sections of the route with slow traffic cost travelers time and nerves. On the A7 Ulm-Füssen and the A8 Munich-Stuttgart and Munich-Salzburg, among others, they lost well over half an hour. But holidaymakers had to be patient not only on the motorways, but also on some federal roads. The Easter holidays began on Saturday in Bavaria and ten other federal states, and many people are using the time for a vacation.
The motorways towards Austria and Italy as well as the trunk roads in the Alpine countries are traditionally considered to be particularly at risk of traffic jams at this time. “We had the first disruptions at the Fernpass very early, around 8 a.m., and this continued to build up throughout the morning due to the block processing in Füssen/Reutte,” said the ADAC expert. A little later it became full on the A99 around Munich, on the A8, but also on the entire A7 from Würzburg to the south, which is also popular with travelers from Hesse and Baden-Württemberg.
This meant that it was significantly more crowded on the streets on Saturday than immediately after school ended on Friday. The reason for this is, among other things, the booking conditions in popular holiday regions such as around Lake Garda in Italy, where accommodation is usually rented from Saturday to Saturday, the expert explained. All in all, it wasn’t a particularly heavy day of traffic jams. And there will certainly still be some holidaymakers on Sunday, but no major disruptions are to be expected.
