Better Call Saul creator Vince Gilligan has announced his next series. Kim Wexler actress Rhea Seehorn takes on the leading role.
Will this be the show everyone is watching? As “Deadline” reports, the Apple TV+ streaming service has ordered two seasons of Vince Gilligan’s (55) next project. Gilligan is the creator of the iconic drama series Breaking Bad and co-creator of the prequel sequel Better Call Saul, which just ended after six successful seasons. “Deadline” writes that a real bidding war has broken out in Hollywood for Gilligan’s new, as yet untitled project. The financially strong streaming service from the Apple group was ultimately awarded the contract. And viewers will also be able to experience a very prominent face from “Better Call Saul” again in the upcoming series.

None other than Rhea Seehorn (50), who played Saul Goodman’s (Bob Odenkirk, 59) great love Kim Wexler in “Better Call Saul”, will star in the new series that has now been ordered. “It’s long overdue that she gets her own series,” said showrunner Gilligan in an official statement. Actress Seehorn wrote in a reaction on Twittershe was “overjoyed and excited” about the announcement of the new series project.
A start date for the upcoming series has not yet been set. According to “Deadline”, the budget should be in the range of 13.5 to 15 million US dollars per episode – and thus well in the upper range for modern shows. Only for epic fantasy series like “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” and “House of the Dragon” or sci-fi works like “Foundation” (also from Apple TV+) is the budget per episode even higher. Together with the order for two seasons at once, this shows the great trust that the Apple TV+ streaming service has in the new project.

Information about the premise and plot of the new show is currently still sparsely sown. It should therefore be a “grounded drama” in which genre elements are mixed. Deadline reports that the project may be similar to the supernatural fantasy and horror series The Twilight Zone, which originally aired from 1959-1964. The show is intended to take place in our known reality, but with a twist. It will also be a mixture of drama and comedy.
Series creator Gilligan has said he’s taking a break from writing “anti-heroes” like crystal meth-making ex-chemistry teacher Walter White (Bryan Cranston, 66) or morally dodgy attorney Saul Goodman after 15 years. “… and who is more heroic than the brilliant Rhea Seehorn?” Gilligan asks when announcing his new series.
The series creator already has experience in mystery
Prior to his big hits with Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, series creator Gilligan was a longtime producer and writer on the 1990s cult series The X Files: The FBI Cases. The series creator is no stranger to the mystery and fantasy setting in which his new show may also move.
