Vanessa Mai and mother-in-law Andrea Berg sang a duet at the “Starnacht am Wörthersee”, which has a deeper meaning for both of them.

The hit event “Starnacht am Wörthersee” took place on Saturday evening in Klagenfurt. Barbara Schöneberger and Hans Sigl led the 8,000-strong audience through the show, which featured stars such as Howard Carpedale, Maite Kelly and Andreas Gabalier.

It was also a very special evening for Schlager Princess Vanessa Mai, who appeared as her new, old project, Wolkenfrei. She introduced a new song – “Infinite” – which she performed in a duet with her mother-in-law Andrea Berg. The song was penned by Berg and was for “Vanessa and all the young people who always think they’re not enough and always have to prove something to someone,” as she revealed on stage.

Mai has been in a relationship with Berg’s stepson, Andreas Ferber, since 2013. She has been married to the music manager since 2017.

Gold record for Vanessa Mai: “I’m going crazy”

Another surprise awaited Mai on stage: to thunderous applause, Sigl handed her the gold record for her song “I die for you”. Her reaction: “Do you know how many streams you need for that? It’s crazy, I’m going crazy.”

Andreas Gabalier presented a new interpretation of Roy Black’s (1943-1991) “It’s nice to be in the world”. He accompanied himself on the piano to the classic, a cello gave goosebumps. He also presented his new song “Superstar”, a song for his little sister.

Schöneberger reveals her worst pick-up

The moderation by Barbara Schöneberger also provided topics for discussion. So she sniffed Andrea Berg’s high heels, gave herself the DJ name “DJane Doppel-D-Babsi” and revealed a bad pick-up line that hardly impressed her: “A guy said to me: ‘I hope you You’re well insured. I’ve got a lump in my pants because of you.'”

The “Starnacht am Wörthersee” has been attracting thousands to Austria every year for more than two decades. Schlager fans could follow the live show on Erste or via the ARD live stream. The “Starnacht” is also still available in the media library.
