“Starfield”: Patch with DLSS now available

Bethesda is improving the performance of the sci-fi role-playing game “Starfield” with patch 1.8.86. The update is available for download and is particularly worthwhile for owners of an Nvidia graphics card: DLSS upscaling and performance improvements make the game run more smoothly on many systems.

At launch, “Starfield” was only available with AMD’s FSR-2 upscaling. AMD’s technology is generally also available on Nvidia GPUs, but usually achieves significantly worse results than the Nvidia-exclusive DLSS. In September, Bethesda finally promised to add DLSS later. DLAA for anti-aliasing is now also available.

Nvidia’s upscaling solution is now available in “Starfield”. Frame generation via DLSS, however, is still missing. However, there are several mods that include this feature. In addition to upscaling technology, Bethesda also improves the performance of many graphics cards, which results in a Experience report from the technology experts at Digital Foundry especially has a positive effect on Nvidia GPUs.

The big “Starfield” update includes additional features that were requested by the community – above all a button assignment so that food items in the game world can be eaten more quickly. Also new is the ability to regulate the HDR brightness on the Xbox Series X/S and systems with Windows 11. The HDR implementation of “Starfield” has so far been largely washed out, black is displayed more than gray. Until now, PC users have only been able to combat this with unofficial mods.

The FoV slider, which was missing at launch, is now available in the options menu, as is support for ultrawide monitors. According to Bethesda, the new update contains improvements for minor bugs in these functions. Bethesda also wants to have improved the eye display on some extra NPCs – their unnatural appearance caused amusement at launch.
