Starfield: Bethesda shows 40 minutes of gameplay of the sci-fi RPG

On September 6th, Starfield will not only be a new Bethesda role-playing game, but also the publisher’s first new brand in over 25 years and Microsoft’s great exclusive game hope for Xbox Series X | S and the PC. Now there is a lot of gameplay for the SGF 2023, with many new details and the first system requirements.

A big presentation for a big game with big ambitions

In the Xbox Game Showcase, Microsoft initially only presented a new trailer; The publisher dedicated the first 60 minutes of the Xbox presentation to numerous other titles. But then came Dicke: With the subsequent “Starfield Direct” the live stream ran for another 45 minutes and it was all about Bethesda’s new shooter RPG. It is the largest presentation that Microsoft has ever granted a single game in a comparable format, Xbox boss Phil Spencer announced the Deep Dive. But Starfield is also the biggest and perhaps most important game that Microsoft has ever had in the lineup, so the argument goes.

In said 45 minutes, there was almost continuously new gameplay to see, which the developers accompanied either with explanations, background information, or a look behind the scenes. Among other things, you could see first impressions of the story, the gunplay, the space flight and New Atlantis – the largest city that Bethesda has ever built virtually. The developer demonstrated the character editor in detail.

Your own spaceships can be customized just as extensively; Bethesda pulled the metaphor of a second playable character. And the plural is no coincidence, because players can build several spaceships and outposts and staff them with companions who can be hired in the spaceport or forked out in the vastness of the Starfield galaxy.

Starfield wants 8 threads, 16GB of RAM — and 8GB of VRAM?

Starfield no longer appears for the last-gen consoles and offers over 100 systems and 1,000 walkable planets: This game will also be no small number in terms of hardware requirements, that was already foreseeable. The first official system requirements underscore this foreboding. It should have at least 8 threads and 16 GB of RAM, and Starfield also needs 125 GB of storage space.

It is also striking that the two graphics cards mentioned in the minimum configuration each have 8 GB of graphics memory – but whether a specific requirement can be derived from this or whether the Radeon RX 5700 and GeForce GTX 1070 simply represent the right performance class remains open. The same applies to the graphics settings, resolutions and refresh rates, to which the two profiles mentioned can be assigned. It can be assumed that Bethesda will follow with more detailed system requirements in the weeks leading up to the September 6, 2023 release, as has recently been the case with numerous other triple-A titles.
