The villain in ‘Ahsoka’ is taking shape and ‘The Bad Batch’ is getting a third season: Here’s how the ‘Star Wars’ series continues.
In recent years, the creators of “Star Wars” have attracted more attention on the small screen than on the big screen. And even if three new film projects made the hearts of fans beat faster at the “Star Wars Celebration” in London – there are also exciting news in the series.
“Ahsoka”
The Disney+ streaming service and Lucasfilm, for example, have a first at the “Star Wars Celebration”. action-packed trailer for the series “Ahsoka” was released starring Rosario Dawson (43). Set after the fall of the Empire, “Ahsoka” follows former Jedi Knight Ahsoka Tano as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy. Ahsoka will be available to stream on Disney+ in August 2023.
In addition to Rosario Dawson, Natasha Liu Bordizzo (28) plays Sabine Wren and Mary Elizabeth Winstead (38) plays Hera Syndulla. It was also announced: The Danish actor Lars Mikkelsen (58) will play the “Star Wars” villain Grand Admiral Thrawn in “Ahsoka”.
Second season of “Andor”
Fans of the acclaimed series “Andor” with Diego Luna (43) have to be a little more patient. According to media reports, season two could premiere in summer 2024. Series creator Tony Gilroy (66) said in London that filming began in November and continued until August. The work on the new episodes will then take another year, so that a start date of the following August is realistic.
“The Acolyte”
Also in 2024, the series “The Acolyte” will appear on Disney +, as it became known in London. The TV show by “Matryoshka” series creator Leslye Headland (43) plays at the end of the High Republic, and thus before the events of “Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace” (1999). “The Acolyte” is set to be a mystery thriller in which a Jedi master and his former Padawan investigate a series of crimes – only to uncover a hidden Sith conspiracy. The upcoming series will apparently be told at least partially from the perspective of the legendary Jedi opponents. The main role is played by Amandla Stenberg (24).
“Skeleton Crew”
Another new Disney+ series is called “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew”. It should appear later this year. According to media reports, the first moving images were also shown in London. In addition, the star of the series, Jude Law (50), appeared on the stage. “Skeleton Crew” is about the journey of four children who make a mysterious discovery on their seemingly safe home planet and then get lost in a strange and dangerous galaxy…
More seasons of Tales of the Jedi and The Bad Batch
Dave Filoni (48) also confirmed at the “Star Wars Celebration” that “Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi” will return with a second season. The animated series premiered on Disney+ in fall 2022. “Star Wars: The Bad Batch” is also coming back – the third season will be the last for the animated series and will be released in 2024. Star Wars: The Adventures of the Young Jedi, an animated series set to take place in the High Republic, launches in May.
The fans also got an insight into “Star Wars: Visions Volume 2”, which starts on May 4th. The issue will “further push the boundaries of ‘Star Wars’ storytelling” with nine new short films from nine studios around the world. The animation styles “from a variety of countries and cultures” aim to show “a dynamic new perspective” on the mythos of “Star Wars”.
Three new movies
Three new “Star Wars” feature films were also announced in London. According to US media reports, the first will be “Dawn Of The Jedi” and will be set in the pre-Old Republic era, over 25,000 years before the events of the Skywalker saga. It will apparently revolve around the origins of the Jedi Order and the first Jedi. The film is directed by James Mangold (59).
The second new “Star Wars” film comes from Dave Filoni (48), the creator of “The Clone Wars”, “Star Wars Rebels” or “The Mandalorian”. The film is said to be the culmination of the Mandalorian story and could be a crossover of The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett and Ahsoka series.
The third Star Wars film to be announced is New Jedi Order. It is reportedly set 15 years after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Daisy Ridley (30) returns as Rey Skywalker. The film is directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (44).
