Julian Lennon sings his father’s song and the “boss” sends a video message. Numerous stars support Ukraine – and call for donations.

Urgent appeals, songs and personal messages: Stars from all over the world called for donations for refugees from Ukraine as part of the “Stand Up for Ukraine” social media campaign.

Dozens of musicians, filmmakers and sports stars used the campaign to exert political pressure and demand humanitarian aid. It took place before the international donor conference in Warsaw, which was convened for this Saturday by the non-governmental organization Global Citizen, the EU Commission and the Canadian government.

“The brave people in Ukraine are fighting for their freedom – and for ours,” wrote the Irish band U2 on Twitter, with rocker Bono adding a song.

Elton John linked a video from a previous AIDS benefit concert in Kyiv. The pop star wrote that he was deeply shocked by the suffering of the people in Ukraine.

Julian Lennon spoke of an “unimaginable tragedy” that led him to sing his father’s song “Imagine” in public for the first time. In a video, the 59-year-old intoned John Lennon’s iconic song about a fairer, more peaceful world. Former disco queen Gloria Gaynor rewrote her hit song “I Will Survive” on the Ukraine crisis.

“Refugees from Ukraine and all over the world need our help now,” warned US rocker Bruce Springsteen in a video message. Since the start of the Russian war of aggression at the end of February, many millions of Ukrainians have fled, most of them to neighboring Poland.

Similar appeals were made by Celine Dion, Carole King, Katy Perry, Kacey Musgraves, Stevie Nicks, Rufus Wainwright, Lenny Kravitz, Jon Bon Jovi, Pearl Jam, Adam Lambert, Garth Brooks, Hugh Jackman, Ellen DeGeneres, and Oprah Winfrey social media to fans, citizens and politicians. Global Citizen linked the posts on Twitter.
