Problems that have developed over a long period of time rarely have quick fixes. The proposal by Federal Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach (SPD), the bottlenecks in children’s hospitals with staff encountered in adult medicine, is an example of token politics – fast, but mostly bad. The minister’s initiative to shift the care emergency failed. It does not do justice to the needs of sick children and reveals how politicians are supposed to patch up a grievance that they themselves have brought about.
