A ship tanker with almost 1,300 tons of diesel on board got stuck in the Rhine near St. Goar on Sunday evening. A driving error by the skipper was the undoing of the crew. The crew had to spend the night on board.

Due to a driving error, a tanker loaded with almost 1,300 tons of diesel got stuck in the Rhine near St. Goar (Rhein-Hunsrück district). There was no leak after contact with a rock on Sunday evening, said the water police.

According to initial findings, the crew had underestimated the very narrow and current-intensive route. The ship could only be recovered in daylight, emphasized a spokesman. The five-person crew had to spend the night on board.
