Spy software – Apple sues NSO – Wirtschaft

The US company Apple has filed a lawsuit against the Israeli NSO Group in a court in the United States. She had used a loophole in Apple’s security system to install her Pegasus spy software on Apple devices and to spy on users. Apple has now closed the security gap. It is not the first lawsuit against the Israeli company. In 2019, Facebook (now Meta) sued NSO for spying on users of its subsidiary Whatsapp. Apple wants to ensure that NSO is permanently prohibited from using Apple devices, services or software. The group is also demanding compensation, according to US media reports. Apple wants to donate the fine to companies that track down such spying programs. At the beginning of November, the US government put NSO on its sanctions list. There is evidence that the spy software was delivered to governments that used it for “malicious surveillance” of government officials, journalists and scientists, among others. The Israeli software company called Candiru was also put on the list. NSO had always denied the allegations.
