If you want forgiveness, you can get it. There are two rhetorical options. First: You name your mistakes and ask for forgiveness. It’s hard because it leaves you more flawed than you’d like, and forgiveness depends entirely on the other person. Second: You “apologize” and name the mistakes of others that (unfortunately, of course) have led to your own misconduct. More comfortable, because it’s a bit more relieving, at the same time you simply forgive yourself.
