When will it happen this time? The cherry blossoms in Bonn always attract crowds of tourists. According to forecasts, the natural spectacle should begin soon. So selfie hunters can get ready.

The famous Bonn cherry blossoms could start earlier this year due to the mild weather and perhaps already close Easter shine. According to cherry blossom blogger Victoria Harlos, it could happen as early as Maundy Thursday.

“That would be as early as never in recent years,” said Harlos. The city expects the trees to bloom in early April – depending on further weather developments. However, an exact forecast is difficult.

The natural spectacle attracts crowds of tourists to Bonn’s old town every year. The flowering branches then lie like a pink canopy over the streets, making them a popular selfie motif. The Japanese ornamental cherries were planted at the end of the 80s as part of a comprehensive district renovation to bring color to the old town.

Due to the expected influx of visitors, several streets in the old town will be closed to traffic on April weekends. The city wants to install toilet cubicles and additional trash cans.
