Before a meeting between Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz and representatives of the German Football Association (DFB), Federal Women’s Minister Lisa Paus spoke out in favor of more equality in sport.

“I was thrilled to see the great performance of our women’s team at the European Football Championship. Never before have so many people – women and men – let themselves be carried away. I hope that we will ride the wave of euphoria for even greater acceptance and more equality in football,” said the Green Party politician to the “Rheinische Post”.

In addition to promoting women in amateur and professional sports, the focus is also on the question of fair remuneration. “Because equal pay for women and men is an essential component of equality,” said the 53-year-old Paus: “Whether in sports, at work or in everyday life – we need role models for equal opportunities and rights for women and men.”

During the visit of Prime Minister Scholz (SPD) to the new DFB campus in Frankfurt am Main, the topic of equal pay should also be discussed. According to the Chancellor, it is also particularly important to meet the national players and national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg again in the near future. The women took second place at the European Championships in England. Scholz recently called for equal pay for men and women in football via Twitter.
