Sports for beginners – district of Munich

Exercising is a good resolution. But quite a few – whether children, teenagers or adults – have not yet discovered their passion for a certain sport. The first “Day of Sports” in Gräfelfing builds a bridge for such cases: on Sunday, June 26, people of all ages have the opportunity to test various sports offers in the community and to take part in taster courses. A shuttle train takes visitors to the sports facilities, starting at the community center, which becomes the “sports station” on Sunday.

Table tennis, strength training for young people, taekwondo, ballet, yoga, self-defence, chess, table tennis or vaulting – the list of sports that those interested can try out on Sunday includes a total of 16 offers from Graefelfing clubs or private providers. Everyone can take part free of charge and without registration, a training session lasts 45 minutes. Co-organizer Lion Buro calculated that anyone who puts together a good route to the various sports facilities in the community will be able to test four sports on Sunday.

You can get information in the morning and train in the afternoon

The idea of the campaign is to present the sports offer in the community to the general public in one day, “because you don’t even know many offers,” says Buro. The format emerged from the “Round Table Sport”. This in turn was created on the initiative of Andreas Krumpholz last year. For the head of the athletics department of the gymnastics and sports club (TSV), sport is simply part of community life, it increases the attitude towards life and makes an important contribution to preventive health care. The round table, at which representatives from various social groups take a seat – club and leisure athletes, young people, senior citizens, local councillors, refugees, representatives of the adult education center or from the area of inclusion – is intended to promote popular sport. This also includes making the existing sports facilities in the community visible. This is happening for the first time with the Sports Day, which is intended to be one of many activities initiated by the round table.

The sporty Sunday starts at 10 a.m. at the community center. According to the office, until 2 p.m. there is the opportunity to get information and advice about sports at information stands. You can also register for membership here. The sports courses start at 12 noon. Every hour on the hour, the shuttle train starts at the community center and makes six stops in the municipal area. Anyone can design the route themselves and head for it by bike. Goals include the TSV, the youth center on the Würm, where the adult education center in the Würmtal also offers courses, the riding club and the primary school in Gräfelfing. For some offers, such as yoga, places are limited, says Buro. It is therefore advisable to register for individual courses on Saturday evening via the website www.tagdessports.org to be sure of getting a place. “Participants should of course come in sportswear on Sunday.” Active participation is only a wish of the organizers. The other goes one step further: “That many people discover a new sport” – and sign up for regular participation.
