30 years after their formation, the Spice Girls are now emblazoned on Royal Mail stamps. The special edition includes 15 motifs.

The Spice Girls were founded 30 years ago through a casting. On the occasion of this anniversary, the British Royal Mail the group with special stamps. The 15-movement collection shows the greatest moments from the careers of Emma Bunton (47), Victoria Beckham (49), Geri Halliwell-Horner (51), Melanie “Mel C” Chisholm (49) and Melanie “Mel B” Brown ( 48).

“We couldn’t have dreamed”

The Spice Girls are still one of the most successful girl groups of all time. In the 1990s they stormed the charts with hits like “Wannabe” and “2Become1”. Their songs and their outfits shaped an entire generation. “When we founded the Spice Girls, we could never have dreamed that 30 years later we would be the first female band to have an entire stamp selection dedicated to them,” the band said in a statement. On the Instagram page The brands are presented to the group in a video. It says that “iconic images from our 30 years as a band” will be shown.

The stamps revisit some of the Spice Girls’ biggest moments, including the 1997 Brit Awards, the 2012 Olympics closing ceremony and their comeback tour. Each singer can also be seen on her own brand. Geri Halliwell, for example, is pictured in her famous Union Jack dress.

It is the first time a women’s group has received a Royal Mail edition and the sixth time a music group has received a Royal Mail stamp set. The others are the Beatles in 2007, Pink Floyd in 2016, Queen in 2020, the Rolling Stones in 2022 and Iron Maiden in 2023. The stamps can be pre-ordered starting today, Friday (January 5).

The history of the band

Two years after their formation, the Spice Girls reached number one around the world in 1996 with their debut single “Wannabe”. The song made them global stars. The musicians reached nine top spots in the British charts and sold more than 100 million records, making them one of the most successful British acts of all time. They took a break in 2000, but returned in 2007 for a successful world tour. This was followed by a special appearance at the London Olympics in 2012 with a medley of “Wannabe” and “Spice Up Your Life”.

There was a second reunion tour of Great Britain and Ireland in 2019, but Victoria Beckham did not take part due to commitments with her fashion label. Since then, many fans have been hoping that the band will perform again as a five-piece at some point.
