In Iran, more than two thirds of gas stations have massive software problems. The payment system at gas pumps does not work, media reports. Accordingly, an Israeli hacker attack could be behind it.
A massive software problem is apparently paralyzing many of the gas stations in Iran. The disruption affected, among other things, the smart payment system at gas pumps, reported the Iranian news agency Isna. As a result, work is restricted at around two thirds of the gas stations in the country with almost 90 million inhabitants.
The Iranian agency Ilna, which specializes in business news, reported an Israeli hacker attack as a possible cause of the disruption. There is currently no official confirmation from Iran’s security authorities.
Experts are working to quickly resolve the problems, state refinery company NIORDC said in a statement. The statement spoke of a conspiracy by Iran’s enemies.
The population should currently avoid refueling
The Tasnim news agency, which is close to the influential Revolutionary Guard, denied concerns about a possible price increase or fuel shortage. The problem at the gas pumps was technical, it said in a post on Telegram. The population is being asked to avoid filling up with gas if possible until the problem has been solved.
Gasoline is heavily subsidized by the government in Iran. Four years ago, high gasoline prices triggered a wave of protests among the working class, which the state violently suppressed.
