Interior Minister Faeser and SPD leader Klingbeil want to expel foreign Hamas supporters from Germany more quickly. Naturalization should also be denied to those who “support anti-Semitism and terror.”

SPD leader Lars Klingbeil has spoken out in favor of expelling Hamas supporters from Germany. “If someone who celebrates Hamas on German streets does not have German citizenship, then he should be expelled from Germany,” Klingbeil told the newspapers of the Funke media group.

“Deny naturalization”

There must be a “democratic consensus in our society that we condemn the barbaric terror of Hamas.” He also expects this from all Muslim associations in this country.

With a view to possible German citizenship, Klingbeil said: “Naturalization is the strongest commitment to our country. Anyone who does not share our values, who supports anti-Semitism and terror, will be denied a German passport. Everyone must know that.” The SPD leader announced that “we will take consistent action” against those who spread anti-Semitism or supported the radical Islamic Hamas. Germany will “exploit all measures that the constitutional state offers us”.

Protection of Jewish institutions increased

Interior Minister Nancy Faeser also expressed this sentiment. She told “Bild am Sonntag” that consistent action would be taken against supporters of the terrorist organization. There is zero tolerance for anti-Semitic and anti-Israel agitation as well as violence, said Faeser. “We will use all legal options to expel Hamas supporters.”

At the same time, she stated that the protection of Jewish institutions in Germany would be further strengthened. “It’s terrible that many families are worried,” said Faeser. “The signal is all the more important: We are firmly at your side! We will do everything to protect you!” The highest priority is to protect Jews in Germany and Jewish and Israeli institutions, said Faeser. “The protection has been strengthened again.”

Muslims not automatically Terror supporters

However, Klingbeil warned against generally equating Arabs or Muslims in Germany with the terror of Hamas. A blanket condemnation “does not do justice to the diversity in our country,” said Klingbeil. “We now have to make sure that we hold our society together,” demanded the SPD politician.

Regarding Germany’s support for the Palestinian territories, Klingbeil made it clear: “It is not the Palestinians who are terrorists, Hamas who are the terrorists.” Many Palestinians are themselves victims of Hamas’ terror. He expects the Palestinian Authority and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to “clearly” distance themselves from Hamas’ terror with a view to further aid payments.
