The previous Minister of State for Integration, Alabali-Radovan, is also to become the federal government’s anti-racism commissioner. The SPD politician has been a member of the Bundestag since last year.

The federal government’s integration commissioner, Reem Alabali-Radovan, is also to become the federal government’s anti-racism commissioner. As her press office announced, the federal cabinet wants to appoint her today.

The SPD politician has been the government’s commissioner for migration, refugees and integration since December. The 31-year-old was born to Iraqi parents in Moscow. In 1996 she came to Germany with her family. She studied political science and became the integration officer for the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in 2020. In the federal elections last year, she entered the federal parliament with a direct mandate.

Nationwide anti-racism advice planned

On the second anniversary of the racist attack in Hanau on February 19, Alabali-Radovan declared: “The federal government will invest more than ever in prevention and political education.” Those affected by racism will be “better protected” and supported. “We want to set up a nationwide anti-racism advice service for this,” she announced.

The coalition of SPD, Greens and FDP had agreed to appoint an anti-racism officer. In addition, there should be a representative for antigypsyism in this electoral term.
