Sparrows take up residence in three arrondissements

Paris flies to the rescue of its sparrows. To cope with the disappearance of more than 70% of Parisian sparrows since the beginning of the 2000s, the capital will set up three pilot sites, called “Quartiers moineaux”, in partnership with the Bird Protection League (LPO).

To preserve the house sparrow (Passer domesticus), threatened with extinction in all major European cities, the City of Paris will distribute nesting boxes and seeds to mobilize residents and traders around the cause of “piaf”. Plants which are particularly favorable to them will also be planted in order to strengthen their colonies.

The three districts chosen are Place Poliakoff in the 13th arrondissement, Place Suzanne Valadon in the 18th arrondissement and rue Didot in the 14th arrondissement. Each of these districts will be entitled to a public meeting, starting this Saturday, before the installation of the nesting boxes.
