Spain in full “shipwreck” after its defeat in Scotland

Thanks to a double from midfielder Scott McTominay, Scotland got off to an ideal start in Group A of the Euro-2024 qualifiers by beating Spain (2-0) on Tuesday. After the victory on Saturday against Cyprus (3-0), with already a double from the middle of Manchester United, Scotland totals six points in two games against three for Spain who beat Norway by the same score.

In a melting Hampden Park, Steve Clarke’s men started both periods with a bang with two goals at the start of each half (7th, 51st), before turning their backs against the Spaniards who had the ball three quarters of the time.

rain of criticism

More encouraging still for the Scots, in the perspective of a qualification for Germany, Spain had very few really dangerous plays, especially in the second half.

By finishing with one less shot (8 against 9) and as many shots on target (3) as their opponents, the Spaniards showed worrying offensive limits for the second game in office of Luis de la Fuente, already under fire from critics . Enough to suffer the wrath of Spanish newspapers, as for brand who sees a “vulgar, without solidity” team which “hasn’t worked in any line”, when ace evokes a “shipwreck in Glasgow”.
