According to the US Department of Defense, the answer to why flying objects cannot be identified cannot be found in space – but in the very earthly bureaucracy.

Dem According to the US Department of Defense, there is no evidence of alien visits to Earth or efforts to keep information about them secret. This emerges from a report published by the Pentagon. Many sightings of “unidentified anomalous phenomena” – commonly known as UFOs – are still unexplained, it says.

In the vast majority of cases, however, usable data was simply missing. In addition, resources and personnel in the relevant government departments are often “irregular and sporadic”, which further complicates the investigations.

Specifically, the report addresses US government investigations of such sightings since 1945 and also refers to findings from secret government archives. Accordingly, there is no evidence that information about extraterrestrial life was withheld by the US military. Rather, the focus was on “more important concerns,” such as exploring Soviet technologies.

The report also states that it is clear that the thought of extraterrestrial life concerns many people. Television, books, films and the Internet fueled the debate, as did trust in supposedly credible sources. However, it is not about refuting a particular belief, but rather about using scientific methods to achieve empirically reliable results.
