South Korea has successfully launched a self-developed carrier rocket and is thus involved in the business of satellite transport into space. This is a great achievement for the country.
The launch of the “Nuri” space rocket, which means world, is a huge step forward for the country’s space program. South Korea is only the seventh country after Russia, the United States, France, China, Japan and India to have a launch vehicle that can carry a satellite weighing more than a ton.
The 200-ton rocket was launched from the Naro Space Center, located in a southern coastal town. The rocket is loaded with eight satellites, including a next-generation microsatellite – also a South Korean development.
“Nuri’s” third start
It is already the third launch of “Nuri”. The first two years ago still missed orbit, with the second last year the aerospace center sent a dummy satellite into its target orbit. Science Minister Lee Jong-ho is accordingly satisfied: “With today’s third launch, we have confirmed the flight performance of Nuri and demonstrated our potential for various satellite operations and space exploration.”
The South Korean Nuri project has existed since 2010, will last four years and will cost around 1.4 billion euros.
