South Africa: Fatalities in the explosion of a tanker truck

A tanker truck exploded in Boksburg, South Africa, for reasons that are still unknown. At least ten people died and around 50 were injured, according to the authorities. Several buildings were destroyed.

At least 10 people were killed in a gas tanker explosion in the South African city of Boksburg. According to the Gauteng regional government, another 50 people were injured, some seriously.

The explosion happened near the city’s train station. It is 20 kilometers east of Johannesburg. According to media reports, the tank truck transporting liquid gas caught fire on a bridge and exploded. Numerous rescue workers are on duty.

Cause of explosion still unclear

As a result of the explosion, two houses burned down. A nearby hospital was damaged, said a spokesman for the local emergency services. It is still unclear how the car caught fire.
