Prince Edward’s wife Sophie was considered a close confidant of the Queen. After the Queen’s death, she could take over her patronage.
Sophie, Countess of Wessex (57), could take over some of the royal patronage of the late Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022). The wife of Queen’s son Prince Edward (58) is said to have been a close confidante of the Queen and, according to the “Daily Mail”, even addressed her as “Mama”. According to British media reports, the Queen regarded her daughter-in-law as a “second daughter”.
Sophie is already a patron of numerous charities. As palace insiders told The Mirrorshe could now take on other patronages after the death of the Queen, including those of the “Women’s Institute” and the “Dogs Trust”.

A source said the Queen and Countess had a very warm relationship, according to the newspaper. The insider added that the Queen’s decision to pass patronage to Sophie is meant to show that bond. Sophie is also extremely popular with the public, under King Charles III. (73) she could take on even bigger tasks, it is said.
