Sony DualSense Edge Wireless Controller: Highly customizable controller for the PS5

Sony itself has announced a new controller for the PlayStation 5. The DualSense Edge wireless controller is said to be extremely customizable and thus appeal to particularly demanding console gamers.

According to Sony, the DualSense Edge wireless controller offers a range of hardware and software-based customization options that make it more customizable. Key inputs can be reassigned or deactivated and the sensitivity of the stick and dead zones can be adjusted. Distance and dead zones can be adjusted individually for each trigger. The desired settings can be saved in specific profiles. A quick switch between these profiles is also possible – for example, to use different setups for different games.

The controller gets its own user interface. The setup can be adjusted in the middle of the game using the Fn key. In addition to adjusting the key assignments and changing profiles, you can adjust the volume for games and chat, for example.

Adjustments can also be made directly to the hardware. There are three types of embroidery caps: standard, high round cap and low round cap. With the back keys you have the choice between semicircular and lever back keys. The corresponding sets are included, along with a braided USB-C cable and a protective bag. Even the individual embroidery modules can be exchanged if necessary. Sony wants to offer replacement stick modules separately.

Like the regular DualSense wireless controller, the DualSense Edge wireless controller offers haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, an integrated microphone and motion controls. The design is intended to take familiar elements from other PlayStation controllers. The DualSense Edge wireless controller gets a DualSense-inspired black and white color scheme and a pattern of PlayStation shapes on the touchpad and trigger surfaces.

Sony plans to provide more information about the DualSense Edge wireless controller in the coming months, including when it will be released. So it should be a while before the Pro Controller for the PlayStation 5 really becomes available.
