Sony blasts PlayStation Plus prices

The company has decided to significantly increase the prices of PlayStation Plus annual subscriptions. A way, according to Sony, to continue to “offer high quality games”.

Video game enthusiasts and especially PS4 and PS5 users will have to get their hands on the wallet. Sony has just announced an increase, from September 6, of the price of subscriptions to PlayStation Plus, its subscription service to benefit from free games.

For now, only customers who have subscribed to an annual subscription will be affected by this substantial price increase, which will apply to the three types of offers offered by the company.

More than 30 euros increase

In detail, the PlayStation Plus Essential offer – the basic package – will drop from 59.99 euros to 71.99 euros per year. That’s an additional 20%. The Extra offer, mid-range, sees its price increase from 99.99 euros to 125.99 euros (+ 26%). Finally, the Premium offer, allowing you to benefit from all the advantages, will go from 119.99 to 151.99 euros. That is an inflation of 26% as well.

“This price adjustment will allow us to continue to offer high-quality games and value-added benefits to your PlayStation Plus subscription service”, also justifies Sony in his press release.

The company specifies that the new prices for this annual subscription will only apply from the next renewal date of the package, starting November 6, for those who are already subscribers.

“However, any subscription changes you make starting September 6, such as upgrades, downgrades, or purchasing additional time, will update your plan to reflect the new prices,” Sony points out.

Note that monthly or quarterly subscriptions are currently not affected by this price increase. Subscribers to the annual PlayStation Plus will in any case be notified by email of this increase.

At the end of May 2023, Sony claimed 47 million PlayStation Plus subscribers, including more than 14 million with higher than basic offers.
