Eden Golan can compete for Israel at the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö. The country had to revise its ESC song beforehand.

The Israeli singer Eden Golan (20) can represent her country at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö, Sweden with the title “Hurricane”. As reported by the BBC, among others, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), which organizes the ESC competition, confirmed in a statement: “The EBU can confirm that the official entry of its Israeli member Kan has been accepted for participation in the Eurovision Song Contest in May became.”

After resistance, the change followed

The participating Israeli television station Kan had previously shown itself unwilling to change the submitted song “October Rain” and the song entitled “Dance Forever”, which was also submitted and criticized. But even Israeli President Isaac Herzog (63) campaigned for the necessary adjustments. The EBU had classified the lyrics of “October Rain” as too political. According to the BBC, he was referring to the Hamas attack in Israel on October 7th. Because of the Gaza war, other participating countries and artists criticized Israel’s participation in the ESC 2024 and called for the country to be excluded.

On Kan’s Instagram account, a short clip shows how Eden Golan is happy about the EBU’s decision and her upcoming trip to Sweden. On May 11th, the final will decide who will win the Eurovision Song Contest 2024. The singer Isaak (29) will compete for Germany.

Israel made its ESC debut in 1973. Since then, the country has won the international music contest four times.
