A Swedish female duo will take part in the Eurovision Song Contest 2024. An experienced host receives support from the US dream factory.

The Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) will be hosted this year by Hollywood actress Malin Akerman and Swedish comedian Petra Mede. The duo will lead live in Malmö through the semi-finals on May 7th and 9th as well as the grand finale on May 11th, the organizers announced on the ESC website on Monday.

“I can’t really describe my feelings about it. I’m very excited and a little nervous, but in a positive way,” said Swedish-American actress Akerman (45). She always liked the ESC – it was a dream come true to be a part of this show.

Akerman, who was born in Stockholm and grew up in Canada, has played supporting roles in numerous successful US romantic comedies – such as “The Bride” with Sandra Bullock and “27 Dresses” with Katherine Heigl. She also had a guest appearance in the comedy series “How I Met Your Mother”, among other things. According to ESC information, her father lives in Falsterbo – just a few kilometers from Malmö.

Mede (53) has already moderated the ESC twice, first alone in 2013, then in 2016 together with Måns Zelmerlöw, the Swedish Eurovision winner in 2015. “Imagine having the chance to moderate the ESC again “It’s an incredible honor,” the comedian was quoted as saying in the statement.

After Swedish musician Loreen’s victory with her song “Tattoo” last year, the Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Malmö this year. It’s a special ESC anniversary for the Swedes: 50 years ago, the iconic Swedish pop group Abba won the music competition with “Waterloo”.
