The rapper Joost Klein has already conquered the charts in Germany. Now the Dutchman is singing at the next ESC in Malmö.

After his huge success with the dance version of the Otto Waalkes hit “Friesenjung”, the Netherlands is sending rapper Joost Klein to the next Eurovision Song Contest (ESC). In Malmö, the 26-year-old from the Frisian metropolis of Leeuwarden will “make a great appearance with his creativity and positively surprise the Netherlands and Europe,” announced the broadcaster AVROTROS.

It was not initially announced which song Joost Klein – he usually only performs under the name Joost – will win the favor of the European audience in Sweden in May. His version of “Friesenjung” – together with rapper Ski Aggu and Otto Waalkes – made it into Germany and Austria reached number 1 in the single charts.

Taking part in the ESC was “a dream come true,” said Joost, according to a statement from the broadcaster, which is part of the Dutch public broadcaster. “I used to watch TV with my parents every year. It’s an honor to represent the Netherlands and I’ll do everything I can to achieve the best result.”

Joost began his career as a YouTuber and has already had several hits in the Netherlands and Belgium.
